From March 4–7, 2026, the SFPA and SFWA (Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Association) shared a table at the 2026 Association of Writers & Writing Programs (AWP) Conference in Baltimore, MD. We brought older copies of Star*Line and the Dwarf Star and Rhysling anthologies, selling them at slightly below cover price. We also had flyers describing opportunities for members of both SFPA and SFWA.
Casey Aimer and I (Miguel Mitchel) covered the table with the additional assistance Holly Lyn Walrath, who had the adjoining table for Interstellar Press. Our two tables represented two out of three of the speculative literature tables among hundreds of other tables; the third was the table for Clarkesworld. Although we were in the minority, we received a lot of attention. In fact, we sold most of publications and made $140. The crowd was very interested in our table, and more than a dozen English faculty purchased our anthologies as a resource to teach their students about speculative poetry. This event was very successful, and I hope we return to the next AWP conference on March 17–20, 2027 in Chicago. Because there were many off-site poetry readings sponsored by AWP participants every night, I also recommend that SFPA do the same at a poetry-friendly bar or club near the convention.
