In April, scholar and writer Michael Levy passed away. A longtime friend of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Poetry Association, and the husband of our Vice-President, Sandra Lindow, he was a beloved Professor in the department of English and Philosophy, and was once the department chair at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. He was a widely-acknowledged expert on Children’s literature, science fiction and fantasy, and writing. Among his research interests, he authored “Children’s Fantasy: An Introduction,” Cambridge University Press, published in 2016, his fourth book. He also published approximately 25 scholarly articles and book chapters and wrote more than 1,000 book reviews. Michael Levy began teaching at UW-Stout in 1980 where he spent his entire career. He earned his Master of Arts from Ohio State University in 1974 and his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1982. His additional work includes serving as a graduate teaching assistant and as a teamster and he was a member of the AFLCIO. His hobbies included reading, writing, gardening and waiting for the Chicago Cubs to win the World Series. He particularly admired the writer Ursula K. Le Guin, who he regarded as one of the wisest people he'd ever met or read. Author Kelly McCullough wrote a touching tribute to him.  Michael Levy was a wonderful friend and influence on many poets who are part of the SFPA, particularly from the Midwest. His joy, his humor, his insights will be deeply missed in the years ahead. We extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to his family.
