And Dwarf Stars News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s April 9th, so Happy National Unicorn Day, to all of you who observe it!<\/p>\n<p>[youtube https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=y1ix3dfjuF4]<\/p>\n<p>On April 1 submissions opened for the Dwarf Stars anthology, from which the best short poem published in the previous year is selected. Anyone may submit their own poems or those of others; there is no limit to how many poems you may submit for the anthology, but poems are selected for inclusion by the editor. Only SFPA members may vote for the award. Open to all genres of speculative poetry, including science fiction, fantasy, horror, and \u201cunclassifiable, but speculative.\u201d Poems must be no more than ten lines (or no more than 100 words for prose poems) not including title or stanza breaks, and first published in the preceding year; include publication credit.<\/p>\n<p>Send e-mail submissions (preferred) to <strong>dwarfstars [at] sfpoetry.com<\/strong>; please put \u201cDS SUB\u201d in the subject line of your e-mail and include poems in body of e-mail or as Word attachments (no scans, please). Send postal submissions (discouraged) to SFPA Secretary, Shannon Connor Winward, 117 McCann Rd, Newark DE 19711, USA.<\/p>\n<p>Editors are welcome to submit entire issues; no need to name specific poems. <em><strong>Submission deadline is May 15, 2017.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"heading\">Our 2017 Dwarf Stars Editor is Robin Mayhall.\u00a0<\/span>She is a writer, editor and accredited public relations professional from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she lives with her cat, Banichi. She earned her bachelor\u2019s degree in journalism with highest honors from the University of Texas\u2013Austin. She now has more than 25 years of experience in public and media relations, corporate communications, and business and professional writing. In 2004, Mayhall began publishing science-fiction stories and speculative and science poetry. Her debut appearance in sci-fi poetry was \u201cMother of Atlantis\u201d in the August 2004 issue of <em>Strange Horizons.<\/em> \u201cMother of Atlantis\u201d was nominated for the 2005 Rhysling Award. An untitled haiku was nominated for the 2007 Rhysling. She served as the SFPA\u2019s webmistress and has published science and science- fiction poetry in numerous publications including <em>Astropetica, Illumen, Scifaikuest, ChiZine, Abyss &amp; Apex, Aoife\u2019s Kiss, Breath &amp; Shadow<\/em> and <em>The Shantytown Anomaly.<\/em> She hopes to see more of her work in print in the coming year.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"prose\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s April 9th, so Happy National Unicorn Day, to all of you who observe it!
