Acrostics can be a fun way towards a first draft. An acrostic is a poem that spells out a word or phrase using the first letter in each line from top to bottom. Here's one by Edgar Allan Poe:
Elizabeth it is in vain you say
"Love not" — thou sayest it in so sweet a way:
In vain those words from thee or L. E. L.
Zantippe's talents had enforced so well:
Ah! if that language from thy heart arise,
Breathe it less gently forth — and veil thine eyes.
Endymion, recollect, when Luna tried
To cure his love — was cured of all beside —
His folly — pride — and passion — for he died.
Following in Poe's footsteps, create an acrostics using the name of your favorite character from a speculative novel, story, poem, or film. Make it an ode or don't even mention the character, leaving the name the only thing that references him, her, or it.
The comments are always open for you to share your thoughts.
