Women Becoming Poems:
Kathryn Ugoretz

Prairie Songs to Bison Lover

When you run wild across me
I hear only your hooves
eternal murmurs wind

until your heart collapses
drums its last beats
in my extravagant tall grass

I love you more
than I need rain

You abandon
your borrowed body
your sacred buffalo bones

to bury themselves in me
