Ghazals for Summer's End
Ghazal #2

The cat reclines on the bed anticipating a dream
But tonight the house is empty of all dreams.

Chickens roost in the dark making eggs for tomorrow's omelet
I wear my "Beauty is all around" t-shirt to bed to scare bad dreams.

The winds bells sing a lonely song in the night air
We tied our wishes on paper flags hoping they'd come true.

No rain in weeks gladiolas' drooping fans lament.
You complained there was never enough sex between us.

I lay in bed alone with the cat against my thigh
Watching midnight tv has become a habit for me.

Dreams knock on the windows
I surrender to sleep, set the clock to wake me.
