Struggle Mountain

There’s an old movie, Sidney Poitier
& Tony Curtis escaping a chain gang.
Running, being hunted, dashing
To catch a freight train, car
Moving, desperation, one white hand
& one black, a brother pulling a
Brother on board. That’s how it is.
We need each other, we’re but one
Link in the long chain of struggle.
It never ends, nothing is ever won
Forever. Forces pull you back,
Countries regress, people get fat
& complacent, Down pressers
Try to put the shackles back on,
Hold the woman down, rape & defile.
It never ends because every time,
New souls face new choices,
Good men sometimes go bad,
Weakness, tiredness, fear & giving up
Turns the tables. It’s always struggle.
Come closer to the fire children.
Let me tell you about fighting on.
See, despair happens, everyone gets afraid,
Loses hope, thinks about how to ease up,
Relax & enjoy the good things.
Some never give up. Some know how
To go away & come back
More determined, more clear.
Struggle Mountain don’t have no top.
Struggle Mountain is for climbing.
A black hand & a white hand,
A moving train, a brother
Helping a brother. The important
Thing is to keep going.
The important thing
Is to never give up.
