Redbud On this wheel the soldier who defected during the Civil War and who died of hunger in the brush is now inscribed near the general who carried the banner to victory. The man sitting in his rocking chair on the observatory of his porch while warriors invaded far off countries to the boom of cannons -- appears in the same whorl. Where conquerors strode and cities rose and crumbled, all gather now in chapters of silence. |
