Alien vs. Predator
a dance drama

(As the curtain rises we see only darkness slowly a diffuse light begins to reveal a large apparently empty room with a polished wooden floor perhaps a dance hall or a skate rink or even a bowling alley it could be any of these as the stage becomes clearer we notice that the darkness on the right is not diminishing instead it has begun to thicken into a sort of roiling shadow as we watch individual forms emerge within the shadow things somehow at once both reptilian and mechanical, these are the destroyers as they whirl angrily about their side of the stage it can be seen that they seem to be somehow increasing in number as if more of them are emerging from some portal in their midst distracted by the destroyers we do not at first notice a lone figure standing on the opposite side of the stage a human figure wearing an awkward papier mache coyote head mask this is the trickster just as we notice him he begins to dance and as he does so other figures emerge from the wings to join him one by one they step forward and sing)

1st Trickster’s song:
I am the trickster
Mafarka Futurista
I carry my cock on my
back in a box
I nibble off pieces when
I’m craving a snack
chorus:
and I dance with my clan
a trickster dance and
I chant with my clan
a trickster chant
(across the hall the spike-armored aliens mill restlessly about ever increasing their number)

2nd Trickster’s song:
I am the trickster
the ragged crowned Raven
My feathers owe their color
of bituminous coal
to the fire I invented
one million years ago
(chorus)
(meanwhile across the hall the skull-faced aliens mill restlessly about ever increasing their number)

3rd Trickster’s song:
I am the trickster
the hindsighted titan
I tricked the gods
into eating bones
the only thing I
ever left in the trough
(chorus)
(the destroyers continue their strange circling and increase in total silence)

4th Trickster’s song:
I am the trickster
the eight headed fisher
and every time
I raise my hook
I create more real estate
for tourist resorts
(chorus)
(across the hall the aliens seem to be reaching some critical mass)

5th Trickster’s song:
I am the trickster
shaking the tree
to catch all the stories
that fall from the sky
now all the stories
will be named after me
(chorus)
(the nervous motion of the destroyers seems to be building up to some climax)

6th Trickster’s song:
I am the trickster
beguiling a stallion
neighing in likeness
of a filly foal (well
at least I gave birth
to something useful)
(chorus)
(the alien monsters seem only to be waiting for some sign)

7th Trickster’s song:
I am the trickster
the modern Prometheus
there are not any monsters
I didn’t create
there are not any monsters
I cannot destroy
(chorus)
(the aliens have become increasingly tense but somehow they seem completely unaware of the trickster)

8th Trickster’s song:
I am the trickster
I gnaw my own innards
it hurts like hell
but if I eat myself
the monsters will starve
and I will return
chorus:
so I dance with my clan
a trickster dance
and I chant with my clan
a trickster chant
(across the hall the monsters mill restlessly about ever increasing their number)
