In the Taverna Ononas

One Greek Spoon and a 'Fridgerator Magnet
(for "la guera" at the Barelas Coffee Shop)

I bring back to "Burque"
a 'fridgerator magnet and
one Greek spoon from Athens

"La Guera" of Barelas Coffee Shop fame
wants to sip chocolate in the Greek dawn
stir her coffee near Syntagma Square

She opens the 'fridgerator door and
sees the Parthenon on the magnet
orange juice and skim milk
taste better with classical thoughts

Somewhere inside she feels her lips
pucker up to Homer and Plato
every atom in her body sways
to Greek metrics and golden numbers

Wingless Victory rises from the magnet
shapes "la guera" into a pale caryatid
the waitress who dances trays of Mexican food.
