Avalon en La Caldera

we’ll be late for the party, you say,
it’s already sunset.

but i am walking in Avalon
on the damp, leaf-flecked grass,
  green-gold and copper
in the early twilight of La Caldera.
my pockets are heavy,
bouncing full of apples,
heavier than your belly
four months full of an uncertain future,
hesitance, and hope.
i can’t walk away from avalon
and into the unknowing night.
i haven’t climbed
   to the farthest apple
lingering perfect in the uppermost slender branches,
veiled by a curve of golden leaf.

wait for me.
i’ll reach it,
and bring it
back into time
for you.
