Prophecy

When a yellow chrysanthemum
creates two blue chairs; and when
those two blue chairs give birth
to ripe juniper berries

(Rub them
between forefinger and thumb — turpentine,
the serpent’s eye, a dark iris rising, Persephone-
fingered);

then
branch-shadows will become luminous
as falling leaves.

Coyote’s bark echoes. Bodies
under a pile of stones. Wind rattles
the bathroom vent. Our ancestors,
begging to be let in.
